I am a Research Scientist in Machine Learning and Cognition in the Paradigms of Intelligence team @ Google, where we work on frontier questions concerning the future of artificial, human, and hybrid intelligence.

Previously, I was an Assistant Professor in Cognition and Computation @ Aarhus University, a postdoc at the Psychoinformatics Lab @ UT Austin, and a Data Fellow @ the United Nations’ Centre for Humanitarian Data. I hold an MSc in Cognitive Science from the Centre for Mind/Brain Sciences at the University of Trento, and a PhD in Cognitive Science from Aarhus University.

I do research on a number of questions at the intersection of AI and human cognition 🤖 🧠 🗣️. For example, I am interested in understanding how AI systems implement high-level cognitive processes such as metacognition, in studying emerging forms of collective intelligence, and in understanding the cognitive impact of human-AI interaction. With this, I contribute to making AI systems more beneficial for more and more of us.

While I don’t actively do much of that these days, I ❤️ contributing to open-source software. I contributed to the development of Neuroscout, a platform for end-to-end analysis of neuroimaging data; I implemented deep learning pipelines for the feature extraction library pliers; I co-developed Turftopic, a package providing streamlined implementations of multiple contextualized topic modeling techniques; and I contributed to the Massive Multilingual Text Embedding Benchmark (MMTEB).

I am also interested in the opportunities opened up by AI in the humanitarian sector, and I am always eager to collaborate with researchers and organizations in this space.
